Very thoughtful and informative as most Americans have no idea how complex and horrible the process is for people who are doing it the right and legal way. They think going to the Department of Motor Vehicles is a trial!

One concern I have is how you ended this with a general reference to blatant racism and politics. Do not disservice those like yourself and your family who did everything right by association with those who ignore the process entirely. The political climate is just too complicated for that, especially if we hope to see some significant reform in our lifetimes.
