When a couple goes abroad, often the culture shock is worse. They can come home after a day and reinforce either other’s negative experiences.

I spent about six years in a very foreign country, and almost every married couple I knew (that had married in their home country) in the ex-pat community ended up getting a divorce. But all those who married ‘local’ stayed married.
