Was it God, an Angel or an extremely good human?
“I had a weird dream” I woke up thinking to myself and trying so hard to remember what it was. Upon recollection, I started rebuking it and cancelling the evil out of it. Heck, was it an ugly dream! Usually I try so hard to meditate upon my dreams to decipher the message but this one, I trashed. My day was not about to be messed up. I remember saying to myself “God carefully places people in our lives for a reason” not that it was connected to the dream but I just said it.

On Monday after a failed plan, my 5 friends and I agreed to go to the cinema on Thursday to watch Maleficent. You are probably asking yourself, why not Tuesday or wed? well…everyone loves a good discount. Monday or Thursday it was. It was one of those movies we were anxiously waiting for, It’s not like there’s a badass movie the last quarter of 2019 is giving us anyway (rolls eyes)…bookings were made. Meanwhile its Thursday 31st October, end of breast cancer awareness month and Halloween day (not that I care) and I have tons of reports to write. The day goes by with my head buried in work. Oh, not to mention but I was hit by rain on my stroll back to office after having my lunch at a nearby restaurant. What a convenient time for it to start raining! Local girl was now wet and very satisfied.
It’s now 4:00 pm and I’m reminded that we have a movie booked for 5 pm. I check my wallet and I do not have enough cash on me to pay for the movie ticket and snack while at it plus the movements involved in between. So I tell my friend that I did not have enough money on me. My heart was racing with one prayer. “Please don’t be mad at me, I’m not trying to fox our plot” I honestly don’t know what I was doing because in all honesty, I could have easily withdrawn money, service outlets were very close to me but no, I didn’t. So off, they go. Remember this is a movie I have wanted to watch since its debut but alas, it didn’t feel like I was going to miss anything. I wasn’t even hurt. So my other friend, who wasn’t part of the initial plan offers to watch with me another time.

So I think, “why don’t I go check on my friend in hospital?” but I called her first. She told me that I didn’t have to go albeit my want, we chatted a bit and said our goodbyes. Now I was stuck at office with no plan. While my friend was waiting to be picked up, by her boo? Dad?Friend?Idk! Maybe I will ask her; we decide to play cards. (Don’t judge, we are a bunch of young creatives that need all things and everything to focus/unwind depending on the situation.)It’s now 5:30 pm and her ride is here. She goes off. I peeped through the glass window of our office 7 stories high, and I was just not ready to sit in the stagnant traffic that I saw. I quickly thought,boda it is. I pulled out my fully charged phone and hailed a ride on the Uber app. The first guy whose name I don’t recall declined the trip minutes after accepting. I tried my second luck. In no minute I was connected to Adam, my angel. He called immediately asking where he should pick me up from. “Oh, such a polite gentleman” I thought to myself. I get to him and after greeting him again, the first thing I said was that I’m not making a cash trip. Cashless kabisa. Guy was very happy. I tell him of how some people reject trips when I tell them It’s not a cash trip. He sheepishly laughed it off saying that those are newbies in the business. He told me that every guy that has been in Uber for at least a year will choose cashless payments over cash any day, and he explained why. It made sense.

It’s 5:39 pm and we start the trip. So because these guys have the most interesting stories, I like engaging boda guys in conversations about different topics. Majority of them are very open minded and their view on certain things is very illuminating. Like I do everyone else, I did the same to Adam. We had a continued conversation of riding cashless and its benefits. Let me take you back a bit, 5 days before this day, a close friend of mine called me. As soon as I picked the phone, the first thing he said was “Lynn what’s stopping you?” clueless as I was, I laughed and asked him what he meant. He said, “Lynn do you realize we keep sharing our plans with each other, we have huge plans but what’s stopping us from pursuing them? Procrastination, fear and the thought that we have plenty of time. That’s what” Yo, I’m not going to lie, this stung deep. It got me thinking really hard and revisiting my dreams. Fast forward, while I’m riding with Adam, he realizes that his front Tyre had deflated. This was about 1km into our journey; we branched off at Total petrol station on Wampewo avenue. This whole time, Adam and I had been sharing deeply about the transportation business, an area I’m deeply passionate about. So you can imagine I had a lot to ask.

While his bike was being fixed, we did not stop sharing. I got a hunch to completely open up to him because boy oh boy! Adam was intelligent in speech and thought. I opened up to him and told him in depth of what I was planning to do in this sector. “Tumazze” the mechanic tells Adam, I hop onto the back and we take off. On the way, he breaks down for me how much I need to start, calculates 2 quarter benefits for me on his phone and he explains deeply, meanwhile he is riding I don’t even know how he was multi-tasking this. I explain to him what my challenge is and what indeed is stopping me. Adam advised me in a way that blew my mind off. About 4kms from the petro station, Adam’s tyre deflates again. We stop at a road side mechanic shop to get it checked and he tells me, “madam, this will take about 8–10 mins, are you willing to wait? I was going nowhere. I was sure to wait. There’s no way I was going to leave the cup of knowledge I was feeding from just to get home and watch an episode of Almost Family. I said yes. We continued our conversation. Adam explained to me every nitty-gritty of this thing, guys, blown away is an understatement.
“But how do you know all this? you ride a bike” I asked him. He smiled and told me “if I tell you the things I’ve achieved from riding boda bodas, you will either think I’m a thief or I inherited wealth.” And about this very topic you are asking me about, I have done exactly what you want to do. At this point, Adam pulls out his phone and he shows me a stockpile of data in figures. He explained to me further…with evidence this time. People that were seeing us must have thought he was telling me about Aim global (laughs) cause yo, I looked convinced, confused and happy. After about 20 minutes of sorting his puncture, I hop onto his boda. Conversation now at one hundred, I was asking all sorts of questions. AGAIN, the tyre deflates. This is the 3rd time btw. We branch off to city oil to get it fixed. Adam in the meantime is now telling me of an unbelievable investment he made after collecting coins and a few notes that he was throwing in a 5 litres jerrycan that amounted up to 18 million after a year. At this point I’m just looking on…”ANGAZ…”

I hop onto his boda again and off we go. Conversation on cloud 13. He tells me of his friend Shaban who is now on a whole other level and doubles as his inspiration too. Adam told me of his experiences that opened my eyes. A journey that usually takes 40 minutes, took me 1 and a half hours. But I was grateful, my cup was full…I asked if I could keep his contact in case I ever needed to ask any more questions. He thanked me for being patient and I thanked him for sharing with me all that. He said “Eyo ebadde ntegeka ya katonda”. I can’t get in any more details but in all these things I discussed with Adam, I was reminded of these key things;
· Do not judge a person by what job they do
· Be patient. Patience is a gift
· Work hard while you still can.
· Financial discipline is key
· Every person we meet, we meet for a reason
· Trust God
Having looked at how everything came unfolding throughout my day, I totally believed that EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON and today, it was for my good.
