Why we live in a “fact-resistant” society.

It is not rare anymore to hear people contradicting science and scientific discoveries, in the past, scientific facts where the ultimate word and the most convincing statements, today we shifted for the first time in human history to a society that allows themselves to question science and contradict it.
It is not really hard to understand where it comes from, we are being bombarded with so much information that we dont know what to believe or which source to rely on.
Thanks to the internet, social media and the impressive speed in which information is being spread, we can be easily manipulated or influenced. Today we have algorithms and AI to hyper target subjects and provide them specific content with specific interests, this means that it is easy today to focus the attention of individuals in a specific subject and completely neglect other important subjects that may allow him to understand better the subject or even see other point of views that will make his opinion even more valid from understanding different perspectives of a topic.
The media industry shifted from quality content to quantity content and that has not been the correct path to maintain a well educated society and a proper balance between different ideologies.
If we want to take it even further in this reflections, we can now ask ourselves if actually we are the final deciders of our actions or even if democracy is still alive in today’s era.
We have allowed people that neglect science to arrive to power, making the science resistant population to be encouraged and keep on believing that science is just an opinion of some and as any opinion it can be rejected, one simple example is the vaccines for new born babies, people are convinced that these leads to autism and there are more and more studies showing that there is absolutely no relation between vaccines and autism. The latest study with 630,000 babies showed that there is absolutely no relation between these two topics, but still there is a big amount of people that are convinced that vaccines are not good, they can find blogs and content supporting their opinions, one big weapon is the word of mouth that can be seen as a pandemic of mis information.
Another obvious example that just pisses me off is the neglect of people concerning global warming and climate change, is just frustrating to see how people can actually trust the opinion of people that are basically ignorant in this specific subject.
Lobbing and personal interests of this people in power use this mis information to keep on pushing policies that gives them more power and money, at a certain level is all about money, it has corrupted our society and is not being used to enhance and benefit the population but rather to keep on building insane amounts of richness to a ones on power. Even if a lot of this people are willing to give back to society and have a altruism personality.
Event though we are leaving in an era where we have easy access to information and we can become experts in any subject just by making the effort of looking for the information, today information can be corrupted or misleading and opinion of a few have more value than scientific facts.
Society grew up to contradict reality and live in a utopia world which is build by choosing what to see and to believe in things with no real facts and values.
