I decided to try the Google Doodle from a few days ago, AKA the Most Searched Playground Paris 2024 (Which, as the name suggests, is based on the Paris Olympics 2024). And who knows? I might learn some stuff from it- And you could, too. This Google Doodle isn’t just able to tell you what people are searching for. It could also give you some insights into the Games- All while having fun!

Spoiler alert: This article contains major spoilers for the Most Searched Playground Paris 2024, so if you’re a spoiler-free person, consider playing the Google Doodle first and read this article later.

How To Play

The tutorial in-game
The in-game tutorial is this block of info. Google, maybe consider a more learn-through-play approach next time!

This is what I took away from The Most Searched Playground Paris 2024’s tutorial:

  1. Move around the picture by left-clicking on the mouse
  2. Use the scroll wheel for zooming in and out of said picture
  3. Check the list on the left to see what you need to find
  4. If you’ve found something on said list, left-click it

Pro-Tip: Use your common sense and general knowledge to find the most appropriate spots for the images on the list to be in. For instance, you could find images picturing water sports on or in bodies of water.

Answers

If you haven’t found the images in this image yet, don’t worry I have. If you want to find them yourselves, then go ahead. But if not, here are the whereabouts of the most searched 20 along with their titles and hints:

Main Events

Football: Most Searched Summer Games Event

A football match with a goalkeeper making a savel
The most searched Summer Olympics Event is also the most popular sport in the world. Who knew?

I may not be a fan of football, but apparently, so many others were. So many that it would make little to no sense for this one to win the title of Most Searched Summer Olympics Event, hands down.

The Most Searched Summer Olympics Sport is making a save.

To those not familiar with sports lingo, making a save means keeping the ball from going into the goal. So, this goalkeeper can be found making sure the ball doesn’t go into the goal so that the opponent can’t score a point.

Goalball: Most Searched Paralympic Sport

A goalball match
A sport I’ve never even heard of

If you know what goalball is, please tell me. I have never, in my entire walking life heard of this sport. All I know is that it’s played with a ball filled with bells. It’s a sport exclusive to disabled people (Don’t believe me? This thing is only in the Paralympics). And its hint is even more confusing:

The Most Searched Paralympic Sport is bringing a hush to the cafe.

Seriously, Google. What does that even mean? Is he making everyone around him quiet with anticipation? So quiet they won’t even drink? That sounds contradictory to this image because a vast majority of spectators aren’t even holding anything!

Marathon: Most Searched Summer Olympics Individual Event

Marathon participant finishing marathon
The marathon inside a hedge maze? Now this is new.

Honestly, this is the one time you can throw my pro tip out the window. Why in the world is there a marathon inside a hedge maze? How do they even know the track? Well, they don’t. We can see in the picture that some participants are going in the wrong direction. At least the hint isn’t confusing:

The Most Searched Summer Olympics Individual event is making a big finish.

Here’s a little piece of curiosity: You can find the other half of the maze in the left bottom corner of the large picture that is this Google Doodle. So, how do they get here?

Water Polo: Most Searched Olympic Water Sport

A game of water polo
Probably the most chill sport by far

This sport is popular in Montenegro and by the looks of it, is like basketball, but without the hoops and it’s on the water. Here’s the hint:

The Most Searched Olympic Water Sport is soaking it up.

Overall, it seems quite regular and is a nice break from the confusion that is the Marathon.

Action Athletics

Parachuting: The Most Searched Extreme Sport

Someone with a parachute landing
Imagine landing from hundreds of feet in the air onto a landing area that looks like a dot from above!

Before I continue, can I ask why there’s a guy from ancient Greece climbing rocks and no one is talking about it? Anyway, this sport is extreme because of the possibilities of malfunctions of any tech, hard landings, and medical concerns while in midair (Makes sense. There’s no medical support to save you if a cardiac arrest happens from all the adrenaline up there). The hint also points out how dangerous this is, albeit indirectly:

The Most Searched Extreme Sport is way up there.

It just points out that you’re up in the air, aiming for a graceful landing on a small landing area that looks like a dot from above. New Zealand searches for this a lot.

Boxing: Most Searched Martial Art

A man in red trousers is knocked out by someone whose victory is being announced by a yellow robot
Why do people promote this violence?

Just a personal thought: I never liked seeing shirtless men with muscular bodies beat each other up for sport. Is the red guy okay? The hint showcases what happened to him shamelessly:

The Most Searched Martial Art is a knockout.

One thing’s clear: Cartoon stars above someone’s head, once they’re knocked out cold, do apply in drawings logic!

Breaking: The Most Searched Street Dance

How is breakdancing relevant to the Olympics? It’s a sport, that’s how. Yes, this sport is making its debut this year to attract youthful spectators. The hint states it’s related to spinning, too:

The Most Searched Street Dance is spinning onstage.

Move out of the way, synchronized swimming and gymnastics, we’ve got an even trendier sport in tow-And it’s a real dance.

Freediving: Most Searched Underwater Sport

The answer here was already shown in the How-To guide. It’s hard to miss this, but I decided to include it anyway. Here’s the hint:

The Most Searched Underwater Sport is in its own sphere.

The only thing disturbing me here is how they even got in there in the first place.

Gear Sports

Cricket: Most Searched Bat-And-Ball Sport

Man playing cricket
Cricket is a game I know little about, but I know it’s a sport.

Cricket is not a game involving crickets, but it does have its own Google Doodle game.

A Google Doodle Cricket screenshot. A cricket is playing cricket with a snail
Crickets playing cricket in Google Doodle. It’s funny, but this is not footage from the game I’m discussing now.

It’s either Google adores cricket or it’s just a coincidence. The hint is more about the game itself than the location:

The Most Searched Bat-And-Ball Sport is swinging.

Honestly, looking for this one just gave me Google Doodle vibes and it brings back a nice nostalgia. I remember very well playing the game and failing miserably. Ahh, the memories.

Ultimate: Most Searched Disc Sport

Two people playing Ultimate
It’s like disc-throwing, but it’s not in the Olympics, but it’s here anyway

Let’s define ‘ultimate’, shall we? With a simple, costless Google search, the word means the final goal of something, the best of its kind, or the best achievable. And then we have the sport. So, are the people who name these sports trying to say their sport is the best? The hint, again plays more on the game’s focus than the location:

The Most Searched Disc Sport is a catch.

Google, a hint in a find-the-pictures game is supposed to point us to where the thing is, not to tell us about the game.

Table Tennis: Most Searched Table Sport

A game of table tennis
A simple game of table tennis, yet it’s literally at such a high place in society.

Table tennis is an amazingly simple, yet fun game, isn’t it? All you need is a table, a net or any kind of barrier, two people or four with paddles to match, and a ball. The hint, this time tells us about where this is this time:

The Most Searched Table Sport has a high vantage point.

This makes sense- the game is on top of a building, and the word ‘vantage point’ means a high place where you can get a good view of the world below.

Surfing: Most Searched Board Sport

A man on a surfboard surfing
Surfing is a blend of extreme and geared sports

You can find him all alone in the top left corner, away from the rest of his surfing friends (Or competition). The hint is probably pointing to the point of surfing:

The Most Searched Board Sport is living on the edge.

Maybe it suggests that when surfing, you normally aim for the edge of the wave. Wow, how helpful, Google.

French Flair

Croissant: Most Searched Puff Pastry

A croissant sign above a bakery
A literal croissant hanging above a cafe

Now that sports are out of the way, we go into French culture. And what better way to start than the croissant itself? I’ve never eaten one myself, so don’t ask me what it tastes like.

The Most Searched Puff Pastry is hanging at a cafe.

I bet you pictured it on a table and checked there first. Guess what? It’s a literal croissant hanging above a bakery. But then again, it’s quite noticeable, so maybe you did see that first.

Daft Punk: Most Searched Electronic Duo

Two people in helmets being DJs

Hailing from Paris, this musical duo makes it here with the title of the Most Searched Electronic Duo. And no, they’re not electronic as in robots. They’re musicians Thomas Bangalter and Guy Manuel de Homem Christo. What’s with the helmets, though? And since when were they DJs?

The Most Searched Electronic Duo is a house favorite.

The ‘house favorite’ isn’t really in a house- It’s at the breaking event, blasting a tune.

Notre Dame: Most Searched Cathedral

A cathedral

While there isn’t much for me to say here, I don’t see how this works with the hint:

The Most Searched Cathedral has a maze-ing view.

I like the pun, but seriously. How in the world is a cathedral facing anywhere but in the maze’s direction an a maze-ing view? You can’t even see the maze.

Bordeaux: Most Searched Wine Region

A man lifting wine in a paper bag
The mime is now the bearer of bottled bliss, says Google

Who lifts wine in a paper bag? And why does he look like a mime? Anyway, Bordeaux is a state, not a person, so why this?

The Most Searched Wine Region is the bearer of bottled bliss

I guess that explains everything, right?

Ancient Lore

Chariot Racing: Most Searched Ancient Olympic Sport

A man in a helmet from centuries ago racing in a chariot
Why is there a man from ancient days racing in a 21st-century racetrack?

We travel back in time to Ancient Greece, where the Olympics came from- Or they come to the 21st century and see how far we’ve come since they were conquered. The referee is raising his red flag because it’s quite obvious he has an unfair advantage in this race, but the man is not even paying attention.

The Most Searched Ancient Olympic Sport is riding high.

That, for once, makes sense- The man is standing higher than the other contestants, but to any chariot-racer time travelers from Ancient Greece who are reading this, that doesn’t mean you get to bypass the rules of modern-day sports.

Zeus: Most Searched Greek God

Zeus as a giant statue on top of a fountain

The Most Searched Greek God is also the most famous: Zeus, the God of the Sky and Thunder, despite thunder only being a sound. Unlike all the other things, no one is even looking at him.

The Most Searched Greek God is a fountain of strength.

Here’s the thing: Rocks and statues can crumble to a wrecking ball, so maybe this fountain isn’t so strong after all…

Athena: Most Searched Greek Goddess

The Goddess of Wisdom is the most searched female god and is also the face of many legends. Unlike Zeus, people are actually paying attention to this one, so maybe she’s more famous. I think she’s more deserving of the fame.

The Most Searched Greek Goddess remains wise and unmoving.

Maybe the strongest form of power is wisdom.

The Odyssey: Most Searched Epic Poem

A ship with a bunch of Greek people on it at the beach
The final image doesn’t fail to disappoint.

The final picture is a ship with Greek people and treasure based on the poem by Homer. Again, no one is paying any attention at all like this ship is the most normal thing in the world.

The Most Searched Epic Poem is beaching.

This is a nice way to end the search, don’t you think?

My thoughts?

The 20 memories from the Games have taught me quite well what people are searching for. While I can’t guarantee I’ll go on any internet escapades related to any of these topics, they seem quite fun to write about. I have a feeling there’s more to search for, but I’ll just write to this point for now.
