5 Job Titles You May Have Never Heard Of

Words are funny aren’t they? Not only can they unravel the most complex and seemingly indecipherable concepts, but they can also make the most simplistic things seem almost nonsensical - as these job titles show.

Funambulist

This frankly fabulous word is the formal name for a tightrope walker. Why? Well, because 'funis' is Latin for 'rope,' and 'ambulare' means ‘walk.’

Hippotherapist

A Hippotherapist is one who uses horses to stimulate motor skills and provide sensory input for patients - often children - in need of physical and mental rehabilitation, thanks to the rhythmic and repetitive movements these animals make when walking.

No hippos? No. Often (and rather more helpfully) referred to as equine-therapy, this type of therapy got its name because ‘hippopotamus’ is Greek for 'water horse.' Do these animals look similar and are they related? Nope. Go figure!
