This story isn’t really one I’d have ever expected to read on here (a confession about a mistake that’s more significant than just some VC’s failed startup) but I’m sure glad I did.
I’m sorry you had to go through what you did in your abusive relationship, no individual should have to endure that. As for the people suggesting you do not deserve sympathy, or that you had ample opportunity to “stick up for yourself” I think they’re underestimating the effects of an abusive relationship. The negative responses I read were from men, and I honestly think they’re having a hard time empathizing because they will likely never be in your position considering their privilege as men.
You are brave for enduring and still being here. You are brave for owning your mistake, even 20 years later.
