I completely agree with this. When everyone blames a thing for not living eternally in paradise, the idea of original sin associated with something natural and normal can have devastating consequences on the cultural psyche. What’s worse is, instead of teaching boys and girls about the social construct of dating and how to protect yourself from the very real physical and emotional dangers associated, they tell them that it’s evil and promote abstinence until marriage. So armed with an all or nothing attitude, once the “none” part of it is breached, either the person is married before they’ve had a chance to understand a part of themselves, or they’ve been told that they’re not longer “pure” (whatever that means) and the person resorts to animistic like sexual behavior because they were never introduced to the courtship customs.
