Bill, I agree events occur. We are exchanging posts. This is part of history. Someone may view these posts in the future and write a statement that at such a time on such a day we exchanged these posts. They may be able to get a newspaper clipping of a death notice and say that a certain person died on a certain day.
What’s missing is the meaning attached to these events. It is the meaning that is the ‘story’ in history.
It is well known that history is written by the victors.
Despite their best endeavours, historians cannot help but bring their own bias to interpreting events. They are human.
This is not to say that history is useless. As I’m sure you know that ‘history rhymes’. By having a sense of history we may avoid some of the mistakes of past generations. Unfortunately, and somewhat ironically, it seems there is not much evidence from history that this is possible :)
