Guantanamo Bay detainees — the top 10 nationalities

The US Department of Defence yesterday revealed the names, ages and nationalities of the detainees in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Data shows that Afghanistan had the largest number of detainees followed by Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.

779 detainees from 48 countries have been detained in Guantanamo since 2002 — the year military operations began.

There were eight Britons left imprisoned at Guantanamo, ranging in age from 41 to 56.

The Guantanamo prison was established after the events of September 11th 2001 and was intended for al-Qaeda members accused of terrorism.
