## 1984~1999: System Software/Mac OS era.

  • In 1984,the first Macintosh. 128k was released with the”System Software” operating system
  • - In 1995 ,the system was officially renamed “Mac OS”
  • - In 1999,Mac OS 9 was released,the first Mac system version that supported multiple users

## 2000~2005: Mac OS X era

  • In 2000,Mac OS X 10.0 “Cheetah” was released,starting the naming of “Big Cat”.
  • - After several versions,the interface and functions were continuously optimized and improved
  • - Mac OS X introduced many familiar features of. macOS today,such as Exposé and Time Machine.
  • - In 2005,Mac OS X Tiger supported Macs with Intel processors.

## 2006~2016: macOS era

  • In 2006,Mac OS X was renamed as macOS.
  • - Multiple versions gradually integrated the excellent features of iOS
  • - Introduced Metal graphics technology,Dark Mode,Siri and other features
  • - In 2016,macOS Sierra officially used the name macOS.

## 2017~Now: Apple Silicon era

  • In 2020,macOS Big Sur started to support Apple Silicon chips.
  • - It was redesigned with an all-new interface comparable to iOS.
  • - macOS Ventura marks a whole new beginning.

Over the decades,the Mac operating system has undergone multiple major upgrades and transformations.From creating the graphical user interface in 1984,integrating features from iOS,to the Apple Silicon transition period,it shows Apple’s spirit of continuous innovation.

What major breakthroughs will macOS have in the future? Still remains to be seen.
