Silence

“I’ll strive to provide everything to my children, everything I couldn’t get in my underprivileged family”. It was his answer to the conscious at the time of taking his first bribe as government officer, never again was he distracted by the feeling of guilt or the distant call of his conscious. A new subordinate was posted in his department who denied his order to take bribe and provide him with his share. In growing flames of the argument, the officer said “I take it for my children, I love them”, the subordinate smiled and replied, “I don’t take it…for the same reason”. The words conjured the moment and left a harmonious silence.
