Day 1: Purpose

“IT IS A TRUTH universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.” This is the first line of one of my favorite books, Pride and Prejudice. Because of this book, I fell in love with reading. I truly feel like if you can read Pride and Prejudice, you could read anything. It is slowly paced, the language is challenging, but the story keeps you engaged.

Fast-forward to now, and I am in a place in life where I am trying to find myself. I turn 25 in a couple weeks and there are so many things I have yet to do and accomplish. Pride and Prejudice reflects two things I believe we are all after… Love and purpose. We all want to reach a place in our lives where we develop a love for someone or something. We also want to have a purpose in life. I feel like in order to do that we need to find our “good fortune.” Good fortune does not mean how much money we have or our social class. It is the abundance of love and passion we have for someone or something no matter what barriers may be in the way.

By the end of the book you realize what the first line really expresses:

Finding a love that gives you purpose. For me that is writing.

With that said, there should be no standard for how to get from point a to point b in anything you do in life. You make your own path. This is something I am finally realizing and am willing to commit to. There is nothing wrong with breaking the mold because nothing is an absolute when we are pursuing our dreams.
