I appreciate that thought, but I still think building skill from scratch based on a niche you identify will prove less productive than carving out a niche where you see yourself naturally fitting.

To your point, though, I think it depends on how you’re tackling success. It definitely makes sense to start with a goal, find out what skills you need, and then focus on improving those. I think this will be a much harder endeavor, as you are sort of pushing against the current of your skills, but sometimes your skills don’t align with your interests.
