Whoops I overbooked again (Part 2)

I went to University of the East Caloocan.

Actually back then I was actually enrolled in the University of the East Manila campus. But having enrolled in Reserve Officers Training Corps for my National Service, I have to take my National Service in the Caloocan Campus of my university. There I was greeted with the smell of carabao grass and all sorts of vegetation – the smell of the greenery of the UE Caloocan Campus. And I loved it.

I walked across the wide campus and was greeted by the marching of the cadets on their way to lecture. This pleases me. Back in my day there are only 80 students taking ROTC – and only around 40 to 60 actually attend.

Looking for one of the cadet officers I know I asked around where my upperclassman Geneve is. Then I went into the Headquarters to see Geneve and another former cadet officer named Marjorie. We all agreed to meet in UE Caloocan before we set off to Bulacan where my old ROTC buddy Kevin was buried.

While we waited for some of my old cadet officer friends I said my Matins and my Lauds.

After the rest of the gang arrived, we went to the ROTC lecture held across the building where the Headquarters was located. I had to run back and forth between the HQ and the lecture site to fetch things one at a time at the orders (suggestions) of my former corps commander and my former Administrative Officer. Just like the old days.

Eventually I did make it to the lecture and the lesson happened to be about all sorts of signal communication. Turns out we hadn’t left for Bulacan yet because we have to wait for Marjorie to get her car. I alternated between listening to lectures I heard six or seven years ago and listening to my old friends talking about all sorts of things.

Eventually we did get on the car and we were on our way to Bulacan.

The journey is mostly uneventful aside from the chatty former corps members and picking up Sir Geneve’s daughter along the way. The driver, Marjorie, feared missing the exit.

But we made it through the right one and we eventually got to Kevin’s grave.

Someone made food offerings by the time we went to my old class marcher’s grave. Not minding this much we lit our candles and began to talk to him, tell him how much we missed him and then pray.
