Pre-Season College Football Mania — Part 2

It is time. College football is among us. Here is our second part of Pre-season MANIA!
Tom Herman, Boom or Bust?

Tom Herman finally has a big boy’s job. After being allegedly offered the LSU job that was ultimately given to Ed Orgeron, Tom ended up at the very place everyone knew he would be heading. Texas. The Longhorns have been down and out for the entirety of the Charlie Strong era and are looking for a quick rebound. Herman might be that man. But, these offenses that are run by the small schools hardly ever work and Texas will be no different. We can look forward to a good season with Herman leading the Longhorns this year, but he will have to adapt to Power 5 football in the coming years if he wants to make his stay in Texas meaningful.
Prediction: Texas will go 9–3 making Herman a success this year.
Heisman Watch

It’s going to be a wild wild year. Plenty of young talent coming to show who has the juice to become the next Heisman trophy winner. Coveted as it is, only few become immortalized. Lamar Jackson of Louisville is hoping LSU didn’t expose him too bad in last year’s game. He had an amazing season and a pitiful bowl performance. But, the previous winner is not the favorite to win the award this year. Sam Darnold of a USC was a standout and this year he looks to up his game. Combine that with veterans Baker Mayfield (Oklahoma) and 1,528,303 year starter, J.T. Barrett (Ohio State) and we have us a race. And don’t count out dark horse, Derrius Guice of LSU. He showed himself to be an elite running back behind the injury ridden season of Leonard Fournette. The Heisman will be close this year.
Prediction: Baker Mayfield will be your Heisman trophy winner
Lane Kiffin’s Return to Grace

After a terrible time at the head coaching ranks, with Kiffin leaving Tennessee for USC, he was blacklisted from all coaching jobs. A sleeze who cares about himself more than his program. Well years have gone by, and Kiffin is back in the spot he messed up again. After a few years coaching Nick Saban’s offenses, leading some of the best teams we’ve ever seen grace the gridiron, Lane has seemingly regrouped himself and took a pay cut to coach at Florida Atlantic University. He was linked to several other jobs before taking FAU, but ultimately, Charlie Strong and Major Applewhite were better and safer picks for their schools respectively. Kiffin will coach this year and have a successful season before the yearly round of firings college football does has his name in contention for a new job. Look to Ole Miss, Notre Dame, and Texas A&M to call him up if their seasons turn sour.
Prediction: Kiffin will stand out with a spectacular offense at a non-Power 5 school and will have his name thrown out there for ANY coaching vacancies at the end of the year!
