This Week in Gaming — Ep 8

Halo TV Series

Bungie

Earlier in the week, Xbox head, Phil Spencer, confirmed the Halo TV series, directed by Stephen Spielberg, is still in development.

When asked on Twitter if the series was alive, Spencer responded with, “alive.”

The TV series was announced three years ago, and continues Microsoft’s efforts to create a Halo universe that encompasses games, movies, books, and so on.

The response heard from Spencer was the first in over a year so we will continue to keep our eyes peeled for more information.

Rocket League

Psyonix

Rocket League has a whole new mode coming in September. Rocket League Rumble, as it’s titled, gives you power ups to bring a whole new dynamic to the game.

The addition list are as follows:

  • The Boot (Kicks an opponent’s car)
  • Disruptor (Forces your opponent to drive uncontrollably)
  • Freezer (Freezes the ball in-place)
  • Grappling Hook (Pulls you towards the ball)
  • Haymaker (Punches the ball)
  • Magnetizer (Attracts the ball to your car)
  • Plunger (Grabs the ball via plunger and cord)
  • Power Hitter (Allows you to hit everything harder)
  • Spike (Attach the ball to your car when you bump into it)
  • Swapper (Change positions on the field with your opponent)
  • Tornado (Sweep up the ball and opposing cars into a giant funnel cloud)

Red Dead Redemption 2

Rockstar

As the rumors state, Red Dead Redemption 2 will have multiple protagonist in the unconfirmed sequel. Seeing that it was well received in Grand Theft Auto V, it makes sense Red Dead followed suit.

If this be the case, it would be a new dynamic and imply a whole new type of story for the Red Dead franchise.

After Take-Two, parent company of Rockstar, said they would be at E3 2016 “in a big way,” and failed to give any pertinent information other than a passing mention of the upcoming Mafia III. Hopefully we get more info at Gamescon 2016.

PlayStation Neo

Sony

It seems that the new PlayStation Neo (or PlayStation 4K, depending on who you talk to) is set to be revealed at Sony’s special event on September 7th.

The event, simply titled “PlayStation Meeting,” is set to kick off in New York at 3pm local time.

Fortunately, we sort of know what to expect from the PSNeo. With the tumors constantly swirling around 4K support for both content AND playback media, the new PS4 is bound to have much more muscle.

Sony still plans to have the PS4 and the new Neo to coexist, so this won’t be a whole new console, but a face lifted one instead.
