Leaving Wordpress.com

1 min readMar 3, 2024

Thanks to Philipp Temmel’s Creativerly newsletter, I discovered that WordPress and Tumblr Plan to Sell User Content to AI Companies. Wordpress says you can opt out, but with this mealy-mouthed paragraph they fail to convince me to trust them:

We already discourage AI crawlers from gathering content from WordPress.com and will continue to do so, save for those with which we partner. We want to represent all of you on WordPress.com and make sure that there are protections in place for how your content is used. As part of that, we have added a setting to opt out of sharing your public site content with third parties. We are committed to making sure our partners respect those decisions. https://wordpress.com/blog/2024/02/27/more-control-over-the-content-you-share/

I’ve started moving my content off Wordpress.com — some of it will show up here over a few posts and history from our house concert series listings will move to Hubspot (not set up yet).

I don’t know if I’ll stay active on Medium or not, but this is a landing spot for the moment.
