GoWin
GoWin is a new feature born from the challenge of turning an existing application around and finding a new feature, in this case TooGoodToGo, an application that fights against food waste.

Research
It was not easy to find a starting point as time was against us due to the length of the project, TooGoodToGo is a very complete application that covers a very important need and does it very well, but we still started to elaborate the interviews to find insights and start thinking about ideas.
We conducted a total of 80 surveys and 8 interviews which complemented with good benchmarking gave us a good starting point for our research. We realised that with the question ¿What was the worst experience you have had using the App? The interviewees agreed that they could not know the state of the food and some of it was not in very good condition, we thought we were getting closer to a possible solution, but far from reality we realised that making the state of the food known in some way went against the surprise packs and the company’s philosophy. We were stuck. Some ideas started to come out, from making recipes with products that arrived in the baskets, sharing what once bought could not be eaten and making a kind of community, none of them were valid as they went against the values of the company and sharing food through the app would not be viable for legal reasons in our country, besides we were not at the point to start thinking about solutions.
We started to define our user persona and we elaborated a user jorney for each one, with the paint points we got we decided to do a brainstorm and voila, now we were getting closer to what we were looking for.
We thought that what could boost the application without losing its values would be to implement a feature in which, by way of a surprise draw, the remaining packs that could not be sold would be put up for tender at “X” time without prior warning, users would receive a notification and would be entered into the draw and these packs would also have a lower cost.
This is where the idea for the new GoWin feature was born.
Ideate
As time was against us and there were two days left to deliver the project, we went ahead and did a Crazy8, we had the new feature, the name and we knew what we wanted.
To organise ourselves better and be more effective in order to meet the deadlines we made a user flow that helped us a lot to define which screens were necessary and which ones we didn’t need to design to show our new feature with all its complete steps, in total there were seven screens plus another five onboard screens where we explained what the user was going to find when opening the application again.
With the Lo-Fi already defined and with no time to waste, we went on to create a design system to speed up the prototyping process.
At this point we divided up the screens and started prototyping our Hi-Fi. One of the screens I took care of was the screen when the user had already participated and won the Gowin raffle.
One of the keys that allowed us to design the final prototype was to continuously ask for feedback from other colleagues so that we could keep moving forward and making changes on the fly so that when we had our final prototype, when we tested it, it was exactly the same as the original application, being an already invented application, the level of detail we needed was optimal.
Conclusions
It was a very complicated project in terms of identifying the user’s needs and implementing the feature. It has also been very complicated because we only had a week to do it, even so I think the result has been very good.
In the research stage, we were very lost, as it is an application with very strong values and philosophy and also the food issue is very controlled. But thanks to teamwork, support, encouragement and the desire to improve ourselves and do well, we went step by step polishing all the stages of the double diamond. This is the stage that I personally find most difficult but also perhaps the one I like the most, the process of researching and being able to use all the tools we have as designers is very gratifying.
I really enjoyed the prototyping stage, as it was a good idea that motivated me to finish it on time and meet the deadlines. At the end of this stage you see how your idea, our idea, starts to come to life.
We had a lot of challenges that we faced, but thanks to our experience and teamwork we were able to come up with a very good solution and idea that could work perfectly in the application if implemented, as it fulfils its philosophy 100%. I am very grateful to my team and for what we have achieved in such a short time.
Thank you for taking the time to read this case study, any feedback is always welcome.
