While I do agree that messaging is a big thing, I would not say it is the big thing. Messaging is actually very old and always improved with the platform, but was not a thing in itself. Clearly you are thinking of chatbots, AI and their future offsprings.
However, we should not forget about hardware. Especially for the recent platform, hardware has been very important to get the whole thing started. For messaging, I see the problem the we, as humans, are severely output constrained. I feel the pain right know, as my brain is t operating at a much higher pace than my fingers and this flawed input device can cope with. That is why I dare to say, that there will not be any revolution through messaging, unless someone solves this output bandwidth problem. Either via brain implants (Neuralink) or muscle neuro signal detection, or what other fancy and exciting stuff one might come up with.
