Do what you wanna do no matter what

Lately, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about what makes people frustrated with day to day life. I even thought about my own life and what makes me frustrated and it always relates back to not doing what I want to do in some way. Remember being a kid and everything was amazing? Being so cute and little you could get away with everything. Those days were the best until someone told you “No” or stopped your fun and made you go to sleep. The thing is we go through the same thing as adults but on a different scope.

Until we really decide we won’t care what people think and do what we want, life will never be as good as it can be.

I genuinely feel everyone has a dream and something they want to accomplish. Some people think on larger scales than others but everyone wants something. Something they envision and think of how great life would be if they could just do this, or just be that. You also think about what your mom would think if you tried it and failed. I’m also sure you think about what that acquaintance whom you really don’t like anyway, would think about your attempt to succeed. You may even wonder how your friends on your Facebook if you started stepping outside of the box. A battle takes place at that point. Do you listen to your gut and forget everyone and go for it? Or do you just settle with what you have to stay safe? The second option will always lead to some type of frustration. You can just feel it when you’re meant for more than your current situation and if you ignore that feeling there is no way you will feel fulfilled.

The older we get the more we let outside opinions and even our own “know it all” absolutely kill our passions and ambitions. Talking to kids can remind you of how much we let the world ruin our dreams. Kids believe they can be president, an astronaut, a professional wrestler, or a cowboy. What’s funny about those professions is I’m sure most of you think they sound silly or it’ll never happen. Even worse, some of you would even be willing to tell one of these kids that these professions are silly or won’t happen. Just one negative opinion can do enough damage to stop someone from even attempting to go for more in life and a lot of times hearing that one negative opinion happens early in our lives. Previous failures can also discourage some people from trying again but at some point, you have to do what you want to do or you won’t be happy.

New age thinking

My parents grew up during a time where there were a lot more “good” companies. The type of companies that really took care of their employees over the long term. They gave pensions, more vacation time, and overall just showed they cared about the employees. Things have changed for the most part. Many companies barely give women time off after having a newborn. That’s just insane to me but that’s another story for another day. When I sit back and think about these things it reminds me of why working for someone creates an internal struggle. The reason being is because 9 times out of 10 you’re doing something you don’t really want to do.

If we want a better living we have to get it on our own. Luckily, we gave everything we need.

Of course, not everyone could just quit a job and try to do their own thing. There is still a way to do what you want though. It just has to be done in your off time. Corporate life has a way of putting out your flame and over time I noticed I lost my grind and fire. I didn’t have anything going on in my spare time to get me to where I wanted to be. I got caught up in just trying to get a better job, getting a raise, and getting achievements. Why couldn’t I just work on getting myself a raise or determining for myself what I should be achieving?

My thinking changed when a friend of mine introduced me to Gary Vee and his YouTube videos. It felt like a punch in a stomach to hear someone be honest for once and say don’t be a coward. It kind of stung a bit to hear someone say there are no excuses that are preventing us from being successful at something. It didn’t taste too sweet to hear someone say that even me being a minority had a way better playing field than my parents did because of the internet. I’m writing to you right now not needing permission from anyone. I can start a YouTube channel tonight and start posting videos about unicorns if I wanted without having to report to anyone. I can get on my Instagram and post about whatever I wanted to in order to grow a personal brand and/or following without anyone’s consent.

That’s when I woke up. What happened to the younger me? The one that wasn’t scared to try anything. The one that ended up in debt trying to get into real estate and trade stocks. The one that got into the tech industry being self-taught. The one that also taught himself to speak fluent Spanish in order to impress a girl (who’s now my wife). The one that really didn’t care if someone agreed with what he did with his life or not. It bothered me that I couldn’t even come up with a reason as what made me lose my fire. Going through the motions and getting into a routine is my best guess and it happens to a lot of people all the time. These days I make sure I’m hustling, writing, and working out but still managing my day job. It can be overwhelming at times and even discouraging but then I think about how I would feel 30 years from now and wonder what could have been if I actually made it. Stop letting people and the world put out your fire. Do what you wanna do.
