In 2018, TRIGGER unleashed SSSS.GRIDMAN onto the world. An update of the tokusatsu series GRIDMAN THE HYPER AGENT, the short-lived TV series turned out to be a love-letter to the source material, as well as Japanese tokusatsu (lit. Special Effects)-based media. However, a lot of it flew over the heads of fans new to the brawl and I found myself doing massive easter egg and reference breakdowns starting with Episode 7 on Twitter.
The recaps themselves were a hit with fans, getting a nod on the YouTube channel Mother’s Basement even. But there were ultimately two major flaws with the whole effort: 1.) I didn’t do Episodes 1 through 6, and 2.) At the time of writing them, a lot of reference material had yet to be released.
To that end, with the release of Episode 12’s recap, I promised fans an expanded version of the recaps with new info and revisions. Think of these as liner notes in a more accessible format. Links to the original Twitter threads have been included!
