Over the last few years, the number of consumers that are starting to shop online is increasing. It is of great importance for e-Commerce companies to appear as high as possible in search engines in order to attract potential customers to their website. To increase the visibility of a website to users of a search engine, the application of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) could be an interesting option to apply. Similar or duplicate product descriptions will cause a lower rank in the search engines. Besides, a description should be informative, realistic, and written in plain language to increase the visibility of the product.

Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques can be used to speed up the process of writing product descriptions. In this article, we use the Transformer that was first discussed in Vaswani et al. (2017), we will explain this architecture in more detail later in this article. We trained the transformer architecture for the Dutch language. In this article, we will discuss the possibility of automating the writing of product descriptions. The goal is to translate product attributes into a correct, unique Dutch description. That means the input will be a product attribute of a product, for example, a washing capacity of…

Introduction to Reinforcement Learning

Reinforcement Learning is a hot topic in the field of machine learning. Think about self driving cars or bots to play complex games. However, the application of this technique to operational problems is scarce. In this blog post, we will guide you through the basic concepts of Reinforcement Learning and how it can be used to solve a simple order-pick routing problem in a warehouse using Python.

Reinforcement Learning is a hot topic in the field of machine learning and can be applied to a wide variety of problems. As formulated by Bhatt [?] : “Reinforcement Learning (RL) is a…

Introduction to text classification and risk assessments

Natural Language Processing (NLP) has always been at the heart of Artificial Intelligence (AI) research. The ultimate objective of NLP is to read, decipher, understand and make sense of human languages in a valuable manner. Text classification is one of the most mature fields within NLP. The purpose of text classification is to automate the process of structuring textual data into one or more (predefined) categories. Text classifiers have proven to be an excellent alternative to structure textual data in a fast, cost-effective way. To take on the text classification task, we can make use of classical methods (e.g. Logistic…

So you’ve spent days, weeks or even months working on your cutting edge machine learning model; cleaning data, engineering features, tuning model parameters and endless testing. And now that it’s finally ready for production, you want to make it available in an easy and reliable fashion. One way to achieve this is to deploy it as a REST API.

Here at Machine Learning Company, we rely on Amazon Web Services to host our machine learning models. Our automatic product classification model is hosted on their platform for example. The services and features offered by Amazon make it relatively easy to…

E-commerce is booming, the field of machine learning is maturing more and more, and therefore it is no wonder that these two fields are becoming more interweaved than ever before. For consumers this is most often notable via product recommendations, which are driven by intelligent algorithms. A less notable aspect driving e-commerce is its ability to facilitate an easy search for consumers, that is, enabling consumers to find the products they’re looking for (in the place they would expect it to be). Behind the scenes these products are stored in e-catalogs, also called the product information management (PIM) system. This…
