I think there are two additional components of strategy, which you infer but maybe should be more explicit. First, strategy must include an assessment of the environment… the great strategists all could look at their environment and see something everyone else missed.
The second, is defining how we will use limited resources… and they are always limited. Concentrating your resources exactly where they have the biggest impact. So maybe the critical resource for most of us is time. Then …how do we use that resource to make something happen? And because the resource is limited, choices and sacrifices are inevitable. Some are easy, but in the end some will be very hard.
Figuring these two components are, or should be… hard work.
