The author, who is a member of the “pastoral staff” of what I presume is a non-denominational church, rails against the “Thou Shalt Nots” who have a “morality-driven view of Christianity” and by contrast offers love. But it is a love without rules; a love that accepts people as they are without striving to help them become better; a love that ultimately lacks the salvific grace of Christ.
A lot of what he has to say is true and good, but as my article above points out, it is only half the truth.
What we need is a synthesis of morality and mercy; not the false dichotomy that authors such as the above proclaim.
