Before Bed Yoga Sequence
Do you ever feel so exhausted during your day and all you can think about is passing out as soon as you get home, but then as soon as you lay down in your bed you can’t fall asleep because your mind can’t stop racing or you all of a sudden don’t feel tired anymore? Or are you just one of those people who has trouble falling asleep at night? I think you may want to try what I like to call “Bed Time Yoga”. Before going to sleep at night I always stretch certain parts of body to help relax my muscles and calm my nerves. Not only does this help me fall asleep faster, but it’s also very healthy for my body. There are several different poses that you can practice before going to sleep but to start you off I will give you a quick 5 step routine that I do every night before going to sleep.
· First step to night time yoga is to sit on on comfortable flat surface, and concentrate on your breathing. Make sure you are in a relaxing, quite and calm atmosphere. Pay close attention to your breathing and close your eyes gently. I usually sit on my floor with my back up against my wall. A stay in this position for about 2 minutes and strictly focus on my breathing.
· Second step to my night time yoga is to lay your back on the ground and lift your feet against the wall. Sort of creating an “L” shape with your body. Hold this position for about 3 minutes and again, concentrate on your breathing.
· The third step that I like to approach next is laying completely flat on the ground with my back touching the floor, and raising one leg up in the air. I like to hold that leg up with one of my hands. If it looks like you are stretching, then you’re doing it right. After holding that position for about 2 minutes, switch legs.
· Another nightly yoga pose I do is simply laying both my knees flat to the ground while resting my chest to them. Extending my arms to my feet and laying my head on the ground. This is one of the most enjoyable positions. I usually hold this position for about 5 minutes.
· Lastly, I lay my back on the ground once more and extend my hands and feet away from my body. If you look like a star fish then you’re doing it right! I hold this position for about 5 minutes and very closely focus on my breathing.
Theses are just a few examples of what I do before falling asleep at night to help me get better rest. So again, if you have insomnia or just want to treat your body to some relaxing stretches, I highly recommend trying these poses!
