Article Response
This article was very insightful. One of the first things I learned from reading it was to steer clear of special interest or nonprofit sites for research. I had never really considered the fact that these websites might be biased before. That is definitely something I will take note of in my future research.
Also, I learned how to deconstruct the URL of a website. Every time I see a long web address, I naively assume that it must be a credible sight. However, this article taught me that it is possible to take apart a web address to see what the source of the information is. All URL’s have certain tags on them that let researchers know what domain the information is from. For example, .gov represents information from a government site, while .net represents information from a network infrastructure.
Finally, another helpful tip that I learned from this article is to always be aware of websites trying to “masquerade” as something that they are not. For example, many website owners try their hardest to make sure that their website is full of credible, reliable information, when this is not the case. As informed researchers, it is our responsibility to put in the extra work to find the true publisher and credibility of the information we choose to use.
