Sundance Books & Music Store Thrives against the Big Name Book Stores
The locally owned Sundance Books and Music store, Located in Reno Nevada has been thriving for more than 10 years now when it comes to competing with the big name book stores like Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
By hosting numerous events like poetry readings, movie nights, and local author signings the business has clearly been setting the bar when it comes to staying afloat in this competitive battle between local owners and corporate companies.
“Sundance is always looking for local authors to come into their store,” Says Holly Walton-Buchanan. Sundance believes that by reaching out to local authors it is setting them apart from the other big name book stores because it shows they are supporting their community and their people.
Brittany Hardy, a loyal customer that has been going to this establishment for years, has always enjoyed seeing what different types of events sundance will make up throughout the years to keep the buzz going for this business. “It’s funny because they started out with just doing simple movie nights and book readings, but now it’s grown to so much more and the crowds have just been growing each year.” Brittany told me.
However, Barnes and noble does do author signings and book readings just like Sundance but what differentiates them is that sundance not only tries to get big name authors but they also try to get local authors to help promote their work throughout our community. You wont be able to find something like that at Barnes and Noble because they are too big of a company to do that.
Holly Walton-Buchanan, a local author said, “the Owner of this company has found its edge in the community and the establishment has become the place to go.” As an author she has always been interested in nevada history and other local authors, but when she went into Barnes and Noble to visit the nevada section, she noticed something wrong. The nevada section was slim to none, ever since she saw that she has been going to Sundance.
So what does the future hold for this local book store? As a Business in a small town community you must constantly have something new to introduce. Sundance is always looking for new ideas to help bring even more people from the community into this store and make them the best Books and Music store they can be.
