How to Avoid Boredom
I can not speak for anyone else, but I used to find myself consistently bored of simple things to do. Even in my busy schedule, with no time for myself, I still found myself completely, and utterly bored. That may not match some definitions of the term ‘boredom’, but for me, my daily repetitive routine led me to feel tired of what had surrounded me for the majority of my life.
As humans, we are generally an ungrateful species. Whether we live in a city, by the beach, in the desert, or in the mountains, I think it is fair to say that what surrounds us is amazing. My solution to boredom is this: If we find beauty in the clouds in the sky and the dirt in the ground, our thoughts of gratitude and amazement can keep us occupied for a lifetime.
Believe me, it can be hard to ignore our inevitable crappy circumstances for a couple minutes a day. But trust me when I say, that if we sacrifice a short amount of time from our busy (or not busy for that matter) day, the beauty of the Earth will drive our minds to the most positive and optimistic thoughts to motivate us to accomplish great things.
I do not care if you believe in God or not.
With that being said, isn’t it amazing that water falls from the sky at least once a year in tiny, sparkling droplets to make the ground shine like glass? How does a mountain a mile high and a mile wide have so much power yet so much grace simultaneously? Why does grass have such a vibrant and welcoming color that makes you want to just collapse into the Earth and roll around in the dirt?
How can we ignore such breathtaking features and be oblivious that something/someone created this?
From personal experience, I can confidently state that noticing the tree you walk by every day to get to class, or acknowledging that tiny pool of water from the sprinklers in the gutter can really make your day a better one.
