How to write LinkedIn posts that drive inbounds

I’ve bootstrapped businesses to $450k using LinkedIn as a channel, even with a tiny following (2,500). I’ve also helped my clients do the same.

Here’s the biggest learnings using LI to get inbounds:

1) Get over the fear of posting

When I launched my new business StoryMage.ai, I decided to write some posts on LinkedIn.

This post got me 7 calls the next day.

A week after launch, my MRR increased by 1.3k. This was all using LinkedIn as the main channel.

2) Secret sauce — Writing about your expertise

So you’re posting. Now what? What do you write about to convert customers?

What I found works well is sharing expertise.

Good example:

  • This is good because it draws from expertise (eg: getting 450k revenue)
  • The other post drew from expertise (eg: Getting someone to pay $1k/mo without having to talk to them)
  • Led to tons of calls!

Bad example:

  • Doesn't show expertise
  • Generic
  • Doesn’t get inbounds

Show off your expertise by sharing results:

  • Personal stories on how you achieved X
  • Case studies on how your clients achieved X
  • 3 lessons on how to achieve X

4) Setup an engine for consistent posting — DO IT!

It’s pretty easy to make one post about your expertise.

But how do you find enough content to post every day?

Here’s my process:

1. Make a list of 4 expertise areas:

  • Building revenue-converting content on LinkedIn
  • Getting first-paying customers
  • Startup building
  • Fundraising

2. Make a list of 5 formats:

  • Personal story
  • Case study
  • 3 mistakes
  • 5 lessons
  • How-to

3. Each month, make 20 pieces

4 topics X 5 formats = 20 pieces.

This will be enough for posting every weekday.

4. Schedule the posts

You can use the Linkedin Scheduler!

Example:

TOPIC: Building revenue-converting content on LinkedIn

FORMAT: Personal Story

POST:

5) Add a CTA

One of my clients is Andrew, founder of Series B Consulting & People Leader Accelerator.

Before, he never included a CTA.

Once we added it in, immediately we saw 3 inbounds apply for his 10k program.

He told me for what it’s worth, he paid $5000 to appear on a podcast, only to get 3 inbounds.

He paid us a few hundred bucks to write his posts. He got 3 inbounds already and hasn’t even gone through half the posts.

CTAs are powerful, use them :)

Putting it all together

Start posting- just do it

Write about your expertise (people can learn something from your post)

Try these formats:

  • Personal story
  • Case study
  • 3 mistakes
  • 5 lessons
  • How-to

Add at CTA.

If you want to build thought leadership faster, check out StoryMage.ai. We generate highly converting LinkedIn posts (in your voice/experience). Our clients have seen 5–6x increase in impressions and more inbounds.
