With recent changes to the laws surrounding abortion rights, you may notice that leftist ideas are populating social media. Although discussions surrounding abortion has brought up diffrent veiwpoints, personally, I think the conservative voice is missing on social media. No matter what you believe, I want you to be aware of social pressures that large social media platforms hold. It can be easy to get influenced by what fearless famous people have to say. When celebrities boldly express their political beliefs, it only makes sense for thier supporters to agree. Even though their ideas reach millions of people, individual voices are just as important.

To help you understand the most common point of view that I perceive, below are some of the most frequently reposted images that I’ve been exposed to.

Abortion is not only a recent topic that large media platforms influentially have swayed.

Through the world’s leading internet entertainment service, Netflix, back in July 2018, Netlix aired “Here is The Break” with Michelle Wolf. With 130 million memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, documentaries and feature films across a wide variety of genres and languages, episodes like these are easily accessible. Michelle Wolf’s message to salute abortion and open up about the importance of access to abortion had the potential to reach millions.

The mood of this episode felt comedic but it did not make me laugh. All I could think about was how her easy-going attitude deceived many.

She goes on to explain the terminology by saying;

  • “Some people call themselves pro-life. But pro life is a propaganda term that isn’t real. Like healthy ice cream and handsome testicles.”
  • “These people are anti-abortion which means they are anti women.” “Anti abortion people do not care about life. They only care about birth”

When she says, “Men, I’m sorry. I know that it brings up a lot of thoughts and feelings and points you wanna make but I just want you to know, that’s all very irrelevant.” I can imply that does not equally value the voice all citizens have. This is a question of literally life and death and she jokes that abortions “should be on the dollar menu at McDonalds.”

She ends with this message, “God blessed abortions and God blessed America.”

Her overall message is vulgar which desensitizes the seriousness of the topic. When it is a matter of life or death, we need be aware of what exactly is happening. The video below can help you picture it.

Warning: Graphic content

Hearing stories from those who are proximate to the topic are the most powerful thing to do if you are looking to gain relative perspective. Former Dr. Anthony Levanto gives his testimony for why he quit performing abortions. It was not until he started a family of his own that he changed his mind.

  • “For the first time in my life I really looked. I really looked at that pile of body parts on the side of the table. And I didn’t see her wonderful right to choose and I didn’t see all the money I just made. All I could see was somebody’s son or daughter.”

Just because mainstream media suggests that you could just get an abortion, let’s not use common stigma’s around teen mothers to shame teen mother’s. Neither decisions for how to deal with an unplanned pregnancy is an easy one to face. When pro-choice standpoints are popularized in social media, mothers who choose to face the challenges that come with continuing with an unplanned pregnancy may feel misrepresented.

Support towards those who chose to carry on is essential. I recognize that everything that goes into being a parent makes parenting one of the hardest jobs in the world because that is the standard that parenting deserves.

If you automatically place the stigma around teen parents that they “are unmotivated, irresponsible, and incompetent parents,” you are making yourself completely useless and destructive.

Below is an article relating to the stigma created on teen mothers.

Let’s recognize that as popularly supported that abortion feels, it is not the only option people choose. We need to respect the woman who have morals that value the babies chance at life over whether or not they can be properly cared for becasue that is her choice and it is her right to express her beliefs.

Below is a video that puts the magnitude of abortions into place thorugh numbers.

  • “How many great minds, loving hearts, and unique hearts were ended before they had the chance to better the lives of all of us.”

We all can agree that in a lot of cases, situations involving unplanned pregnancy can be stressful. Through shared stories on youtube, there is a support system that really highlights how teen mothers go against the stigma and encourage that your story of motherhood can be a happy one.

The beauty of using youtube as a platform is that people like Asia Leigh talk to the camera in a such a real way that the veiwer can really feel like they are not alone through the honesty of the content. Below is Asia Leigh’s fascinating journey of mother hood.

Nothing is impossible so let’s encourage woman to maintain hope in their future and to seek a happy ending throughout an incredible journey. Imagine the impact we can have on others once we recognize the courage it takes for mothers to use their morals to follow their hearts.

If you want to make an impact, here’s what I invite you to do,

  • Dedicate a post with the hashtag “ #imwithyouma ” and explain why you support mother’s who choose to coninue their unplanned pregnancy.
  • Use the link to spread my word.
  • To help get rid of the stigma around teen motherhood, be mindful of your own thoughts and attitudes when you personally meet young mother’s.
