Introduction To Me
I am from the Chicago-land area, specifically a western subrub called River Forest. I have a mom who is an ex-teacher turned children’s librarian and a Dad who has a job I don’t understand past that he works in banking. I have an older brother who is a writer and a younger sister who is a high school student. I also have a dog named Lucy, I love them all very much. I am an Junior at St. Norbert Colllege in De Pere, Wiscosnin with an education major that has a certification of Middle Childhood/Early Adolescence and an English/Language Arts minor.
I decideded that I wanted to be a teacher when I was in 3rd grade because I liked school and it seemed like the thing to be. As I got older I realzied that I really did want to be a teacher, and not just because I liked school. I care a lot about other people and their success even when I was younger, and when I was in middle school one of my best friends,Meg, was terrible at math. (To be honest she’s still my best friend and she’s still terrible at math.) During that time of middle school, it was about 7th grade, I was in academic support(called STAR) for a reading glitch that I had grown out of. My parents and my school counselor both decideded that there was no harm in keeping me in STAR, and that it was actually benefitted Meg to have me in the class. Even though Meg struggled terribly with math she never wanted to ask the teacher for help becuase she was worried he’d think she was stupid. That’s where I came in, she had no problem asking me for help. So all throughout 7th grade I helped her with math and I could see that my help helped her improve. As I got older I got more opprununites to help people learn and succeed. I know as a peer I made a difference in Meg’s life, and that’s exactly what I want to do as a teacher.
