From the Book of Kathy Schwalbe Eighth Edition Chapter 4 in what went right an organization that excel in Project management are indeed Capturing business value found by PMI. They complete about 80 percent of their projects successfully (defined by meeting the scope on time and on budget) and waste 13 times less money than low-performing counterparts. ”Their rigorous approach to the project , program and portfolio management improves their ability to execute strategy and creates a competitive advantage. Surprisingly the news in this survey of 2,800 global professional was that only 12 percent of organizations were considered to be high performers, a percentage that has remained unchanged since 2012,(19 %) of the main industry group surveyed was in IT, followed by financial service (11%).For me it is true and important that the project management are indeed capturing business value to improve and create a competitive advantage, especially the global professional to be considered as high performers. a.)The real problem with this case is that Nick has to once again start preparing the new schedule according to the given time frame and to deliver the project without compromising on any of the prospects of the project.
b.) This case does not present any realistic scenario because of the least timeframe given to the new project manager by the top management because of which there could be some compromise on the project outcome.
c.) Nick Carson is not a good project manager because he did not focus on all aspects of the project. He also failed to provide accurate schedules and also detailed plans on the happenings of the project.
d.) To be a better project manager Nick should have scheduled the project properly, and should have arranged kick-off meetings as many times as possible and know the problem of top management clearly.
e.) The top management should first have a kick-off meeting with all the stakeholders and analyze the present status of the project and the future time frame needed to complete the project without compromising on any of the aspects of the project.
