Artifact 5: Fishbowl activity, May 15th

The fishbowl activity was helpful to me in showing how re-reading and then discussing different readings develops different ideas, and deepens understanding of what essays are trying to present to the readers. This activity helped me to think about other ideas and thoughts than just my own. It allowed me to have an open mind to what others had to say about what they read and why they thought what they did. In writing my essay, I used this method of incorporating other’s ideas in with mine in order to expand my essay more and make it more dynamic. Collision of ideas has played a huge part in my writing process, and it is definitely helpful in deciding how to explain my ideas and be more creative with my writing, other than just my own thoughts because that is where it begins to become biased. I learned from this activity that it is much more insightful when reading a text through the lens of another text, as well. I re-read “Transliteracy” through the lens of Scholes’ essay, and found numerous new points that stood out to me the second time I read it. Often, I overlook some important points made in the text a first time, but then catch them as I read through the text again, because I am looking for a few new points to stand out to me.
