The origin of the word ‘Ihram’ is the Arabic language in which that means ‘not to desecrate’. Ihram is not a specific dress instead it is a sacred state in which one has to enter in order to perform Umrah pilgrimage.

In-state of ihram some things become forbidden for a Muslim until one exit from the state of ihram. To perform an accepted Ramadan Umrah 2020 you should follow the rules of ihram.

Umrah dress code for ladies

Contrary to men women are not required to assume a specific dress to enter in the state of ihram. Women can wear any type of clothing to enter in the state of ihram. They can make the intention of ihram in their casual clothing. Your clothes must be neat and clean that you are using to enter the state of ihram. It should create a vivid look of you that attracts others.

You should wear a loose-fitting abaya over your casual clothes to perform Umrah. You can wear both black and white abaya. It is not encouraged to wear thin or colourful clothes under the abaya. White-coloured abaya is advised due to the atmosphere of Makkah and Madinah.

Steps before entering the state of Ihram

There are just a few steps that you need to perform to enter in the state of ihram.

•Cut nails of your hand and feet.

•Remove hairs from your armpits and private parts.

•Take a purifying bath also known as Ghusl. If you don’t require a Ghusl and there is lack of sources you can just do wudhu.

•Pray obligatory prayers and pray two rakats of Sunnah.

Prohibitions in the state of ihram

• Wearing colourful or tight-fitting clothes.

• Clipping nails and trimming or shaving hairs from the body.

• Using perfumes, cosmetic products and scented oils

• Beautify yourself in front of the mirror.

• Jewellery is not allowed.

• Covering the face and hands.

• Having a sexual relationship with your husband.

• Getting married.

• Fighting, using vulgar language and backbiting.

• Hunting or harming other living things unless in case of self-defence.

• Pulling teeth or extracting blood.

Shoes and other accessories in the state of Ihram

You can wear shoes and other closed footwear like socks in the state of ihram. You can also wear glasses. You can apply creams and lotions to your body if they are medically required. You can look into the mirror if you don’t have an intention of beautifying you. Shading under the non-stationary items like cars etc. is allowed.

Rules of Ihram for a menstruating woman

If a woman is having her menstruating cycles at the point of meeqat she can make an intention of ihram and do ghusl after arriving at the hotel. Her ihram will be valid but she had to change her previous clothes. She doesn’t need to go back to meeqat to assume ihram.

A woman can’t do tawaf if she is having her periods as it is described in a hadith. Prophet (S.A.W) said to Hazrat ‘Aa’ishah (R.A) when she menstruated during Umrah: “Do everything that the pilgrims do, but do not circumambulate the House until you become pure.” -[Sahih-al-Bukhari & Sahih-al-Muslim]

These are the things that must be considered for a woman to enter the state of ihram. Women should wear proper clothing to cover their body. Thin clothes like Pakistani lawn are not advised. Plan your Umrah by January Umrah packages and get great rewards by an accepted Umrah.
