Becoming Less Distracted and More Self Aware
I love the topic of this article. Too often we find ourselves filling any bit of alone time with social media and other distracting applications. I loved when Rana mentioned that the technology that was intended to set us free is now becoming addictive. We become so obsessed with the virtuality of social media that the reality of solitude seems unbearable. This becomes the point when technology that was initially intended for good, becomes evil. We so frequently distract our minds that we begin to forget what it is like to think for ourselves. The very thing that we think provides happiness, is the culprit of our insecurities and doubts. Personally I think that most people are afraid to be seen alone. Almost as if solitude deems someone unpopular or weak. When in reality, someones ability to be alone demonstrates confidence and power. I admire those that are so in tune with themselves that they never fear to stand alone. Developing this skill that is discussed by Rana will become a great accomplishment for those that succeed. In order to find ourselves, we must look on the inside; the answers will not come by searching outside sources. Thomas A. Edison explained, “The best thinking has been done in solitude. The worst has been done in turmoil.” Distraction is the enemy to our mental and emotional wellbeing. “Starve your distractions, feed your focus”. Nothing will ever be solved when we forget to take time for ourselves. Isn’t it ironic that doing close to nothing can solve everything?
