The Fear of Rejection and the Struggle to Reach Outside the Box
I admire the words in this article in so many ways. Not only does this relate to business but every single aspect of our lives. I loved when Awosika wrote that the thinking part of the equation accounts for ten percent of the process while the doing part makes up the other 90. Often times this 90:10 ratio becomes skewed when the last minute “am I actually going to do this?” thought comes into play. That single burst of hesitation, as Awosika speaks of, is enough to kill the dream in its entirety. That brings me to another amazing point Awosika brought up, he said, “Society trained you to become a thinker. But the world belongs to the doers.” When did we become robotic creatures who are scared to think for ourselves? Why do we automatically believe there are guidelines and regulations for everything? Why do we trap ourselves inside a box? I think part of it, if not a big part of it, comes from our growing fear of rejection. We could develop an amazing idea or strategy, but it will never reach outside the walls of our minds because of what? Our fear of failing. But as Awosika said, “… you don’t have anything more to lose than a dent in your ego or someone saying no to you.” So next time the moment of hesitation approaches or we find ourself over analyzing the outcomes, stop thinking so much. Reach outside the confining box of restrictions and regulations. That’s what doers do.
