Very new to this whole ‘blogging’ thing..

So, the only real ‘blogging’ I’ve done is Tumblr, and even then after having my Tumblr account for over 4 years I haven’t ever posted a text post, I just ‘reblog’ images. So as the title expresses, I am new to blogging.

I’ve always wanted to be a person that ‘blogs’ perhaps about history or fashion, or whatever is really on my mind, and people have told me I should blog, however, this blog will be about technology, education and the ever evolving (technological) world.

So, a bit about myself. My name is Maddie and I study at Australian Catholic University at the Strathfield Campus. I started my first year of University in 2015 and for three semesters I was studying a Bachelor of Teaching/Bachelor of Arts, Humanities. My plan was to become a High School Teacher, however, due to working with Primary School children I realised I wanted to be a Primary teacher instead. So now I am back to first year again. I made lots of great friends last year, and I miss them a lot, but luckily there are some really nice people in my course that I have met so far. So, when I am not at uni or working, I am reading, baking, doing origami or catching up on the TV series I am watching at the time. I feel as though I am always SO busy with UNI so it’s good to have some hobbies on the side.

I love technology, I love all the opportunities it brings and the benefits it possesses. I am also thankful for technology as it has introduced me to some of the best people in my life (something that will be discussed further in a future blog).

At Australian Catholic University, the unit COMM140 is quite different to any other unit I have participated in. Definitely do not forget your technological device as COMM140 is built upon technology and a technological device is essential! As I am studying to become a Primary Teacher it is important to learn now how to best utilise technology within the classroom. I work in an After School Care Centre with children aged 5–12 and while we have a great outdoor space for the children to run around, the question that I am without a doubt asked every time a school arrives for the afternoon is “when can we go on the computer?”. We try to encourage children to play outside rather than be inside behind a screen, however, children crave playing computer games such as Minecraft.

I find it interesting just how addicting technology can be, I myself am guilty of this, spending at least 7+ hours on my macbook a day, and on a day I have nothing to do, this time could almost be doubled (which is probably kind of sad). Technology is just as addicting to children too, many expressing they wish they could use more of it in schools, I even recall a child wishing they could replace their teacher with a robot. Taking this into account, I do hope to utilise technology in my classroom, although I do like the old fashioned pen and paper method so completely converting me to technology only may be a challenge (that I should be more willing to accept).

So, there it is, my first blog post, it almost feels as though I am talking to myself (which I do tend to do, a lot). I am keen to blog some more about actual topics and issues and see where this takes me, I guess.

It is also essential to note all work and opinions covered and expressed within my blog posts is/are my own except of course where I have referenced any other academic works or opinions that are not my own.
