Walk across a stage. Take a piece of paper. Get on a plane.
It’s not every day that a university sends 21 of their graduates across the world, the day after graduation. But SCAD isn’t your everyday university, so here we are in Hong Kong.
For most of us (or at least for me) this is an opportunity of a lifetime. Previously, I’ve only ever traveled to Canada, and I don’t really expect my career to take me too far out of the US, in the future. And to be able to make this trip with so many talented people, from so many different creative fields, makes it even more amazing.
The goal: to create a mind-blowing exhibit of our best work.
(My personal goal: to play with as many monkeys and goats as possible.)
We have a lot to accomplish in a short amount of time, as we each need to refine the 4 pieces we want to exhibit, produce and prepare them to be exhibited, and, of course, take some time to act like the tourists we are. We spent the first day recovering from the journey here, getting to know everyone and seeing their work, and eating dim sum. Tomorrow, the real work begins (and maybe more dim sum).
