Alive and Well

Who’s that! Who’s dead in my bed!
Grim as grim could be, T’is me
Cold, stark, and quite alone
Nothing left in my flesh, but bones

Silenced now, for once and all
With quick reflection, I recall
All my words that are mute now, too
Except those words, I love you
Not past tense, for it’s quite clear
I’m still alive — I’m present here

So, sadness within me does not dwell
For I am on my way to heaven, not hell
Take note of this, those still with breath
For we shall meet again, upon your death
