“I knew nothing about electrical connections but as at now I’m able to detect and fix domestic faults at home whenever we have any issues with power”

Mafita is encouraging more girls to enrol in traditionally male dominated trades, like electrical installations and masonry, with a view of increasing their potential to breakdown gender stereotypes and earn a sustainable living.

Sadiya Jaafar, a Mafita beneficiary from Mando now relishes the opportunity to graduate as an electrical installations and repair specialist.

Sadiya has this to say about her journey, “I never knew anything about electrical connections but now I’m able to detect and fix domestic faults at home whenever we have any issues with power. I am also happy that I will be able to make a living from electrical installation and be able to sponsor myself to further my education which is what I aspire to do”.

Sadiya is happy that, although she is a female, there’s no discrimination from her family or classmates for being in the electrical installation trade area which is often considered as ‘for men only’.
