Since 2014 (it’s now 2018 as I write this), I kept a list of lessons I learned during my year. Sometimes they’re practical, sometimes they’re abstract. I shared those on my tumblr. I decided to share them on Medium too.

1. Mind your own business.

2. Money is a tool. It is not good nor bad. Just like a hammer, it is useful in certain circumstances. And just like a hammer, it can be used for good or bad.

3. People are crazy.

4. Life is not about you.

5. Being older does not make you wiser, smarter or more respectful.

6. Mind your own business.

7. Solitude is good, but do not live your life alone. It is not worth it.

8. Be kind to yourself.

9. Never miss an opportunity to feel good. You won’t get too many moments of those.

10. Know what you want your life to be about, what you want people to remember about you.

11. Don’t make life too complicated.

12. It doesn’t matter. It applies to anything and everything. No, really.

13. Wait.

14. Mind your own business.

15. Honesty is the best policy.

16. Not everybody wants to deal with honesty all the time, because honesty ain’t all that pretty.

17. Learn when to keep your mouth shut.

18. Be a good friend to people that matter.

19. Life is not TV.

20. Idealism will kill everything, realism will kill your soul.

21. Silence is very healthy.

22. Separate the snobs from the real original people.

23. Mind your own business.

24. Drink the champagne, eat the candy, be a child.

25. There is a difference between older people and old people. Old people can be anybody at any age. Those people feel regret. But really, it does not matter. You can’t change anything.

26. Don’t explain yourself. You are who you are and you do what you do. As long as you are not hurting anybody, do not explain yourself.

27. Apologize profoundly when you did something wrong. But never apologize at random.

28. Grow up. Life is great at any stage. However, your inner child will always be with you, so again, be kind to yourself, be your own best friend.

29. Storage is a lie.

30. People are full of bullshit.

31. „To thine own self be true”.

32. Do not underestimate the pull and lure of gluttony, greed and envy.

33. Being beautiful is not a contest.

34. I don’t care about winning.

35. Simple things in life are also wonderful if you experience them alone.

36. Ask for help when you need it.

37. Learn how to listen, but also learn how to be some place else in your head when people are telling you some stupid, boring story. No need to make someone feel bad over their inapt storytelling.

38. Clean your house. Make your bed. It helps clear the mind.

39. Mind your own business.

40. Learn something new.

41. Accept change. Life is change.

42. Know that everything in life has already been done, seen or said before. Anything anybody says now is not very special.

43. Except cats. Anything cats.

44. If someone can’t take care or appreciate a pet, they suck.

45. Keep it simple.

46. Get rid of everything that gives you a bad feeling.

47. Be careful of helping someone. No good deed goes unpunished.

48. A lot of people are narcissists. I suppose that has its reason. Does it?

49. Make a list of anything that makes you feel happy. At times life makes you feel bad, whip out the list and remind yourself. Do it. I promise it will help.

50. Mind your own goddamn business and do not explain yourself. You have as much of a right to try to have a decent life as any other human. As soon as you start to thing badly about another person, ask yourself why another person does things, just mind your own business. They are most likely thinking the same about you. Their actions do not apply to your set goals (see point 10). Also, if you want an answer: people are crazy. So are you.
