Keep going Bradley… I know that the meds suck but they don’t have to control you. Exercise has helped my immune system stay stronger — I think I got sick more frequently before my transplant than in the 2 and a half years since. I think we also need to form a better relationship with food than most people have and it affects us in a more direct way — keep track of what you eat and what it does to you afterwards. Notice patterns in that and adjust. Notice how your body absorbs certain nutrients.
I was getting awful migraines after my transplant from the meds — and after consulting with my doctors we decided that I should start taking a daily preventative B2 supplement (riboflavin) and added in an Omega-3 supplement… my migraines have vanished. I also am anemic and started iron injections and now am on just a supplement. There are sometimes vitamin deficiencies that your doctor can identify through blood work. I was never a big believer in vitamins and supplements, but as long as you are targeting real deficiencies (rather than taking a multi-vitamin which would put too much of a strain on our kidney) you should be okay. Keeping an open line of communication with your doctors about your symptoms is the best way to get them resolved!
