ANA

Repeat the words enough and they become a prayer:
It’s brave to be hungry, make a body undo.
To eat less is to be less. I am made of air.

Unravel me, Ana: scrape me raw and starve me fair.
Hollow me beautiful. Make me see-through.
Repeat the words enough and they become a prayer

To bless this ice pick body, carved-out stare,
Saliva turned to salt and fever dreams of honeydew.
To eat less is to be less. I am made of air —

Empty cups around my knee bones, skin taut enough to tear
On bones that crest like mountains, valleys bruising blue.
Repeat the words enough and they become a prayer:

Against the heart that pounds my skull, the dead and falling hair
The empty arms of pelvic bone and breasts my chest withdrew.
To eat less is to be less. I am made of air

And dissipating faster now, my wrists like rocks laid bare,
My shoulder bones like angel wings. Once, you see, I flew.
Repeat the words enough and they become a prayer:
To eat less is to be less. I am made of air.
