I think that a lot of people share your opinion, but I don’t think that makes that viewpoint necessarily correct. My father is a liberal democrat living in South Carolina (hard to believe, but that does exist). He went to a Trump rally. Why? Just to see if Trump in person was the same as Trump on TV. It’s so easy for media to cut out certain sound bytes, present them out of context, and portray people and events differently than they actually are. Out of a half hour speech, you may hear one minute of it on a news program. The difference between my father and Richard Dreyfus is that my father isn’t famous.
Yes, there are many ways to learn about a candidate now. But all of those sources are giving you information filtered through their own lens. There is no such thing as a truly unbiased media source. While (at least almost) everything a candidate says is highly polished and constructed in such a way that you can’t take any of it completely at face value, hearing it directly from that candidate’s mouth is still the best method to understand that candidate as completely as possible.
