Dance to the sound of your heart beating

Dancing has always been a part of my life. Okay, maybe not my whole life — since I was six years old to be precise. But in any case, dancing is a part of who I am. It is part of my identity. When people ask me to describe myself, I often refer to myself as a dancer— even though I don’t dance professionally, and I don’t take dance classes as often as I would like. I feel lost without dance. And, without dance, I don’t know how I would be able to describe myself. Dancing is me, Marcela. I am a dancer.

So, why do I love dancing?

Dancing enlivens my soul and lifts my spirit. It allows me to move to the sound of my heart beating. It gives me the freedom to express my emotions through the movement of my body. It allows my soul to release all the energy that is inside of me. It showcases what my body is capable of achieving. It turns a bad day into a good day. And, it helps me forget about the world. Dancing gives me happiness.

On this International Day of Dance, I challenge you to dance. Take a dance class or dance on the street. Whatever you choose to do, just dance to the beat of your heart.

“I dance because there’s no greater feeling in the world than moving to a piece of music and letting the rest of the world disappear.”

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
