Keyword research. Ugh, right? 😑 It’s like the vegetables of content creation — important but not very fun. Who has time to pore over spreadsheets and Google Keyword Planner for hours? Not me! 🙅‍♀️

That’s why I came up with what I call quick and easy keyword research. No spreadsheets are required,🚫 Just your thinking!

Here’s how it works:

1. Pick Your Topic

First, decide on a high-level topic you want to create content around. This will be the focus of your keyword research.

For example, let’s say you have a dog treat business called “Bark Bites.” 🐶 Your high-level topic is “dog treats.”

2. Brainstorm Keywords

Now comes the fun part! 🤩 Take your high-level topic and brainstorm more specific related keywords, using an emoji for each one.

For our dog treats example:

💊 Dog vitamins
🥩 Dog food topper
🦴 Dog chews
🌱 Organic dog treats
🐕‍🦺 Puppy treats
🥛 Dog bone broth

See how easy that is?

3. Expand on Your Keywords

Next, expand on each emoji keyword by adding any related terms, modifiers, or searches people may use.

For example:

💊 Dog vitamins ==> “dog multivitamin,” “vitamins for dogs,” “Do dogs need vitamins.”

🥩 Dog food topper ==> “dog meal topper,” “human grade dog food topper,” “freeze-dried dog food topper.”

And so on. This gives you a nice list of very specific, targeted keywords to research further or use right away.

4. The Magic of Free Tools 🪄

Now, unleash the power of free keyword research tools like Google Trends and Answer the Public. Put your brainstormed keywords and watch the magic happen; you’ll see related searches, trending topics, and even questions people are asking. Boom, Instant gold mine of keyword ideas.

🏁 Ready to Research

There you have it — an easy, no-spreadsheet way to get a solid list of keyword ideas using these methods. Now, you’re ready to put them into your favorite keyword research tool for further analysis. Look for keywords with both high search volume and low competition. Remember, it’s better to target a few well-chosen keywords than to spray and pray with a million irrelevant ones.
