One Day Road Trip from Hyderabad — Medak & Nizamsagar
With long weekend for Dussehra this year (2016), I and my buddy Ravi explored few road trip options from Hyderabad. We wanted a day trip i.e. we wanted to get back on the same day (with kids ~ 1 year it would be tough to stay). After lot of googling, we found only couple of places… and one of them was NizamSagar and Pocharam Wildlife Sanctuary…I tried to get info about these places but in vain..So I decided i would write up a blog on this….So here we go with our experiences…
First the weather was playing hide and seek but we decided to go anyway and there are lot of unkowns (no proper info)…We decided to have Medak as the base and kind of move around from there…We started in the morning at about 9 AM on Amazeeee…..went on Outer ring road…vroomed to exit 5 and got onto NH44 to Medak…The drive was scenic (with lot of rains this season) with lot of green cover and country side was looking fresh and awesome…We stopped for a little food break…gulped the great desert made by Navya (Ravi’s wife)…pampered the little ones and then back on course….
That’s when my wife Pavitra spotted a hidden water flow (she is always good at finding such places..she gets to take lots of photos!!! ;))….Guess what it was Awesomeeeee…..this is a spot near Krishnapur on Medak road….water flow was good and we enjoyed this unplanned stop and clicked some good photos….I wish there was rafting here…
Back on course….we headed to Medak and we wanted a decent family hotel (clean ambience and restrooms) and enquired few people and most of them told Chandra Bhavan near Bus depot… So we got into that hotel….Not a great one i should say…Pathetic rest rooms…but they had a AC option for family….food was ok but we were able to give food to kids and then we went to the famous Medak Church…Good place..you can get in …nice area and nice architecture…they allow everyone…but be sure u don’t disturb others…
Then tummy fulll…my buddy Ravi offered me wheel ( may be he was sleepy ;) otherwise he wouldn’t have )and i grabbed it without hesitation :) and headed to Pocharam Wildlife Sanctuary…The road was not great it is bad in patches…but greenery was thicker…Also be careful …there are no sign boards or markers for this which i thought was bad and we had to ask lot of people….We finally reached and the Sanctuary was closed as it was a holiday…Would u believe???? on holiday a tourist spot being closed….disappointment but we didn’t want to ruin the trip….guys plz check the day and may be call these guys before u go there…One guy told us that the sanctuary has Deer, some birds, wild boars/pigs etc…could have been a nice little safari i think but not that day….
Time for water spectacle….Nizamsagar dam…Road was patchy and worse in few placessss….Sun started beating down…humidity high….we made it and went up to the dam area….Lot of crowd ..this place was swarmed with people….and we walked up ….hydrated ourselves and Manjeera river water was running down with great force and it was a great sight…But crowd and poor maintainence ruined the place a little…Poor maintainence from Tourism department I should say…people littering all over and traffic was allowed on the dam and there were honks all the time ( I hated it ….y do guys honk at pedestrains on a dam…)…This place has potential but needs facilities and proper maintainence…..No boating as welll :(…All in all it was a scenic spot and worth visiting but could become lot better…. ( am postive some time in future it would get better)
We tasted local ice gola (ice fruit rather….reminded me of childhood days)…had good snacks in the car and headed back home…We reached Medak again and a pit stop ….fed kids…fed ourselves and drove back home by 11 PM…..So all in all a fun filled drive…We enjoyed each others’ company and the scenic drive…
Quick Tips : FOOD — get snacks in the car, Not many great food places but decent manageable ones… Fuel : Yes many Pumps along the way RestRooms : Ok to some extent…
Finally not an over the top place….but if you are looking for a quick road trip near Hyd u can check this one out….check the season (best post monsoon) Oct-Jan…gets better when lot of rains….Happy travelling guys…
