What are your two words?
Ready or not — it’s the end of 2017, and 2018 is upon us.
Are you quick to move on and leave 2017 in the dust without a second thought? Or are you reminiscing and not quite ready to roll into the next year?
I love a good fresh start (with anything really — known to have many household chores started at once), but I especially love a new year. I’m over here full of energy and gusto ready to dive into 2018!
But as I’ve been goal setting for this new year, I was reminded my fresh start and new goals only mean something because of my 2017. There’s importance and value in taking time to look back and reflect first. Because what I learned, where I went, and the people I spent time with all got me to this new year.
So, instead of leaving 2017 to quickly fade away, I took some time to reflect — to soak in the memories, experiences, achievements, and challenges of this year gone by. And I chose a word for the past year.
My word for 2017 is PIVOTAL.
A lot of things shifted for me in 2017 — work, personal breakthroughs, and clearer purpose. Year in review:
I quit a job.
Served first jury duty on intense case.
Joined my hubs working full-time together — helping small businesses grow.
Started teaching yoga again.
Uncovered and wrestled through some old habits and mindsets that needed breaking, always in progess.
Visited some cool places — road-tripped to MN and back. To South Tahoe and back. Birthday in Palm Springs. Visited friends in ATL. Celebrated my youngest brother and new sis-in-law’s wedding in Chattanooga. Adventures with family in LA, and Vegas fun with besties.
Pain, injuries and sickness. Joy, gratitude, and hope.
It was a year of pivoting and shifting.
Now as I look to another new year with this reflection in mind, and I chose another word.
My word for 2018 is STRENGTHEN.
After lots of pivoting, now I want to get stronger. Physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. I want to build muscles in all these areas and deepen my roots.
So my question to you is:
What are YOUR two words?
Whether you love or hate this time of year, it’s happening. Time keeps moving right along whether we like it or not. And you get to choose what mindset you head into 2018 with. Take advantage of this season with a “built in” reason to reflect and reset.
Go for a walk to think. Sit down with pen and paper to write. Or chat with your favorite person.
Reflect on 2017.
Reset for 2018.
Pick your two words.
Share what you came up with. I’d love to hear!
