My mood changes drastically with music. So I wanted to explore this phenomenon. I conducted an experiment in which I listened to songs (on Spotify) from different genres one after another and then picked a word that best explained what I felt at the end of the song from a pre-defined list of positive and negative emotions/moods.

THE LIST OF MOODS:

POSITIVE: Amused, Blissful, Cheerful, Content, Dreamy, Ecstatic, Energetic, Excited, Giddy, Joyful, Loving, Mellow, Optimistic, Peaceful, Silly, Sympathetic

NEGATIVE: Angry, Annoyed, Apathetic, Bad, Cranky, Depressed, Frustrated, Gloomy, Grumpy, Guilty, Indifferent, Irritated, Melancholy, Restless, Sad, Stressed, Weird, Jittery, Slow

DATA COLLECTED:

INSIGHTS:

My mood doesn’t always correspond to the mood types the genre is known for. For example, slow songs make me happy and hip-hop and rap makes me sad/indifferent.

FUTURE ITERATIONS:

Now that I have collected some data, I would want to visualise it in an explanatory way in the future.
